On Friday 13 March 2020, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that State and Federal Governments are advising against non-essential organised events of 500 or more people from Monday, 16 March 2020.
This is a scalable precautionary measure, based on expert medical advice, to slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19 amongst the Australian community.
At the announcement, Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said the risk to the Australian community generally remains low at the current time.
The NRL has confirmed that remaining Round 1 games will proceed this weekend as per game-day schedule.
However, the NRL has advised that from Round 2 all NRL matches will be played at closed stadiums due to State and Federal Government advice, until further notice.
