#1. Sushi with pickled ginger and wasabi

If you’re looking for something fresh, delicious and healthy (with vegetarian variations to boot), look no further than sushi.

A Japanese dish, sushi is prepared with vinegared rice and a mix of ingredients like vegetables, raw fish or chicken, and sometimes tropical fruits or pickled vegetables.

Traditionally, sushi is made with seafood like tuna, eel, salmon, prawns or crab, but it can very easily be made vegetarian – think avocado, pickled cucumbers and carrots!

Sushi is often bite sized – so it’s perfect for corporate dinners. Attendees can network while chowing down on mini sushi pieces and make connections over a traditional Japanese dinner.

Just don’t forget the pickled ginger, wasabi and soy!

#2. Pizza napoletana (just like nonna used to make)

Is there a single person on earth who doesn’t love pizza?

Instead of going for your run-of-the-mill, commercialised pizza from Dominos, impress your boss (and your colleagues) with traditional pizza napoletana, just like nonna used to make!

Neapolitan pizza is made with San Marzano or Roma tomatoes which grow on the plains of Mount Vesuvius and mozzarella made with milk of water buffalo. This pizza is so delicious, the art of making it is now included on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage!

Those ingredients might be hard to come by, so feel free to use regular Roma tomatoes and mozzarella, then garnish with fresh basil or spinach leaves on the top for an extra Italian zing.

#3. DIY seafood buffet & grill

There’s nothing quite like fresh grilled seafood – prawns, mussels, salmon and whiting, all spiced with lemon and paprika!

At most restaurants and catered events, dinner comes prepared and cooked to perfection… but why not put a spin on the traditional corporate dinner and have attendees grill their own seafood?

There’s an undeniable novelty about sizzling, searing and assembling your own dinner – minus the washing up part!

Add a small barbeque grill to each table and have attendees grill their own seafood (or vegetable skewers) to their heart’s content. It’s different, it’s unique and it’s bound to be a conversation starter – even better when attendees don’t know each other super well.

#4. Black bun burgers with wagyu beef (or grilled halloumi/mushrooms)

If you’re looking for a major people pleaser, there’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned burger. Packed with gooey melty cheese, pickles, tomato slices, lettuce and a wagyu beef patty (alternatively a slice of grilled halloumi or mushroom), you can’t go wrong with a thick, juicy burger.

To make things a little more interesting, make the burgers with black buns! Dreamed up via Burger King as part of a Halloween promotion, black buns are made using edible bamboo charcoal (like a Kuro Burger from Japan).

The charcoal doesn’t change the flavour, but it sure looks impressive!

#5. And for dessert… mousse!

Who wants dessert?!

To top off a successful corporate dinner, set up a dessert buffet bar and make sure there’s lots of chocolate mousse, along with a range of other unique flavours like vanilla, salted caramel and strawberry.

Just add fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries plus some chocolate sauce, you’re sure to end the event on a high note.

For vegetarians and vegans, mousse can be made using aquafaba – the liquid from a can of chickpeas. Whipped with sugar, aquafaba becomes a white, fluffy foam which can be mixed with chocolate and other flavours to make a delicious, dairy-free dessert.
